How this paycheck calculator works

This paycheck calculator estimates take-home pay by starting with your gross annual income, subtracting pre-tax deductions and the standard deduction, applying the 2026 federal income tax brackets, then adding Social Security and Medicare payroll taxes. You can also add an optional flat state tax estimate, post-tax deductions, credits, and extra withholding.

What is included?

  • 2026 federal income tax brackets and standard deduction.
  • Social Security employee tax at 6.2% up to the 2026 wage base.
  • Medicare employee tax at 1.45% with no wage cap.
  • Optional flat state tax estimate when selected.
  • Pre-tax deductions, post-tax deductions, additional federal withholding, annual tax credits, and other annual taxable income.

State paycheck calculators

This calculator keeps state tax transparent by using either Not included or an Optional flat estimate. It does not invent state or local tax rules for all 50 states. State payroll taxes can vary by state, city, income level, filing status, credits, local rules, and employer payroll setup.

Future state-specific calculators can be built as separate pages with their own rules, examples, and disclaimers.
